ZOLOFT LINKED TO SERIOUS, LIFE-THREATENING BIRTH DEFECTS:  The Law Firm of D’Arcy Johnson Day is currently investigating Zoloft induced injury cases.  Zoloft is the brand name of an oral antidepressant medication.   Manufactured by Pfizer, it belongs to a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).  Zoloft and other SSRIs work to balance the chemicals in the brain that affect mood.  Zoloft is used by millions of Americans for anxiety and depression.

The FDA is strengthening its warning for the antidepressant Zoloft because it may be associated with birth defects, specifically, congenital heart defects, Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), abdominal and cranial defects.  As of November 15, 2012, nearly 70 Zoloft lawsuits have been filed in state courts, and 245 in the federal courts.  Zoloft lawsuits began due to alleged inadequate warnings from pharmaceutical manufacturers to expectant mothers and medical professionals regarding the link with Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns.  The FDA now requires an important warning be printed on the drug’s box stating that exposure to SSRIs during the first trimester of pregnancy has been linked to respiratory complications, including PPHN.

If you or someone you know has a child who suffered birth defects following prenatal exposure to Zoloft, you should contact us immediately.
